Lemon Thyme
Note Profile
About
Leafy citral lemon over soft thyme
Scent Profile
Lemon thyme smells of bright, leafy lemon first, like the leaves crushed between the fingers. A gentle herbal body sits underneath, recognisably thyme but without the hot, medicinal bite of the common herb. A fresh green side runs through it. It is strong but not harsh.

ScentArt
Origin
Lemon thyme is Thymus citriodorus, also written Thymus x citriodorus, a lemon-scented thyme in the mint family. The perfumery material is the essential oil or CO2 extract of the leaf and flowering tops. The chemotype used for its lemon scent is high in citral and low in the phenols that make common thyme hot. A Spanish material sold under the same name is rich in 1,8-cineole and smells different.
Usage in Perfumery
Perfumers use it as a herbal lemon in the top and heart of citrus, aromatic and cologne accords. It gives a lemon brightness with a herb body, softer than lemon peel. It can bridge citrus and thyme without the medicinal edge of thyme oil.
