About

Mitti attar is made at Kannauj in Uttar Pradesh. Discs of local clay are fired, then hydro-distilled into sandalwood oil. It is the only major perfumery material made from soil rather than a plant or animal. It smells of the first rain on dry ground, mineral and dusty, over creamy sandalwood, with a dry smokiness from the firing.
