Scent Profile

Honeyed dominates and it is the dark, thick kind: comb honey and molasses rather than nectar. Floral sits under it as a dense, rich blossom body, not an airy one. Earthy is the third pillar and it runs the whole length of the material, deepening into the drydown as a tenacious, slightly spicy richness. Sweet_vanillic carries the coumarin-like undertone that both sources name, a warm tonka sweetness rather than sugar. Green is a spicy leafy top note that lifts the opening for a short while. Fruity reads as ripe, jammy fruit sitting inside the honey. Warm_spice is the drydown spice, soft and dark. Leather is a real facet here, not an artefact: the trade glossary names leathery spice and a surprising animalic depth in the natural absolute. Below the line, creamy_woody carries the creamy sweetness Eden Botanicals describes, tobacco_hay is the other half of the coumarin signature, and animalic is the trace depth. Aquatic_ozonic is scored low but not zero, because the term is used in the market for aquatic lotus accords as well as for this absolute.

Origin

Pink lotus absolute is solvent-extracted from the flowers of Nelumbo nucifera, the sacred lotus, grown chiefly in India. It is traded as a viscous, very dark brownish orange-red liquid of molasses-like consistency. This is a different material from the transparent aquatic 'lotus' accord that most compositions use, which is built from synthetics such as calone, hedione and helional. It is also distinct from blue lotus absolute, which comes from Nymphaea caerulea, a water lily rather than a true lotus.

Usage in Perfumery

Used as an exotic floral fixative in the heart and base rather than as a fresh aquatic top note. The material is thick enough to need warming or dilution before blending. Perfumers reach for it where a floral needs weight, honeyed density and an earthy drydown, not translucency.
