Pua Kenikeni
Note Profile
About
Creamy honeyed tropical white flower
Scent Profile
Pua kenikeni is a rich, creamy-sweet tropical white flower. It sits between gardenia and frangipani: narcotic and creamy, with a warm, honeyed thickness. It is warmer and more honeyed than tuberose. As the flower ages it deepens into a persistent sweet-floral warmth with an amber-like tone.

Origin
Pua kenikeni is the flower of Fagraea berteroana (also spelt F. berteriana), a small tree of the Pacific islands, also called pua lulu. The trumpet flowers open white and turn orange as they age over a few days. The flower is rarely extracted. In Polynesia it is used to scent monoi oil.
Usage in Perfumery
Perfumers treat it as a heart note in tropical, Pacific Island and white-floral compositions. Because it is rarely extracted, it is usually built as a gardenia and frangipani accord.
