Rhubafuran
Note Profile
About
Tangy rhubarb with a green, eucalyptus heart
Scent Profile
Rhubafuran smells of tangy, sharp rhubarb stalk. A green, almost eucalyptus heart sits at its centre and gives it a cool, herbal edge. A grapefruit-like brightness lifts the top. It is crisper and more herbal than the plant note, with only a faint juicy fruit side.

Origin
Rhubafuran is an aroma chemical made by Givaudan. It is 2,4-dimethyl-4-phenyltetrahydrofuran, CAS 82461-14-1. It is made in the laboratory and does not come from the rhubarb plant.
Usage in Perfumery
Perfumers use it to build a rhubarb effect, most often in fruity and citrus accords. It is usually supported by a green material such as cis-3-hexenol and a citrus such as grapefruit. Givaudan says it performs well across functional products, air fresheners in particular.
