About
Sour cherry blossom is a light floral with a tart edge, a green astringent bite and a faint bitter-almond whisper. It is the same petal shape as cherry blossom, pulled sharper and drier. The one source that describes it says so directly: lighter and sharper than sweet cherry blossom, less sweet than the Japanese kind. Read the tartness as the point of the note, because it is the only thing that separates it from a blossom this repository already publishes.
Scent Profile
Floral leads because every phrase in the source starts there: 'light white-pink floral', 'delicate, tart-edged white-pink petals'. It is a shade below the published Cherry Blossom's 0.60 for a reason the source gives - this flower is described as lighter and sharper, so less of the note is petal and more of it is edge. Nutty is the bitter almond, benzaldehyde, and it is the facet the source foregrounds against sweet cherry blossom even while calling it a 'whisper'. Green is the 'green, astringent bite', which the source names twice and which the published Cherry Blossom does not carry at all. Sour is the 'tart edge' and it is the word in the note's own name. Below the line: powdery and clean_musk are the airy transparency any reconstructed blossom accord carries and which the published Cherry Blossom scores at 0.28 and 0.20 - they are lower here because the source spends its words on sharpness, not on softness. Origin
The referent is the spring flower of Prunus cerasus, the sour or Morello cherry, a different species from the ornamental Japanese flowering cherries that give the note Cherry Blossom its name. No essential oil is distilled from it. Cherry blossom petals of any species yield almost nothing on extraction, so the note is a reconstruction built from aroma molecules, with benzaldehyde and green-tart materials used to push it away from the softer sakura accord. That construction is what a supplier or manufacturer sheet would normally describe, and here there is none to find, because there is no raw material to sell.
