Tussilago farfara smells green and grassy first. A honeyed, floral thread runs under that, sweet with a cocoa-like edge. A faint winey note and a light fruity note sit beside the florals. It dries to a soft, sweet musk.

Origin
Coltsfoot is a wild plant of Europe and Asia. Its flowers open in early spring, before the leaves appear. The dried flower bud is a Chinese medicine, Farfarae flos. A 2025 study of that bud found aldehydes and alcohols as its main volatile compounds. No perfumery supplier stocks a coltsfoot oil or absolute. TGSC lists the flower as not for fragrance use.

Perfumers name coltsfoot as an idea and build the effect from other materials. It appears in very few perfumes. It reads as a green, sweet spring flower.
