Castle Forbes Forbes of Forbes is an Eau de Parfum, created by Andrew French. Forbes of Forbes opens with Orange and Mandarin, settles into a heart of Oakmoss, Pine, and Basil, and dries down to a base of Amber, Patchouli, Clove, and Vanilla. Castle Forbes's Forbes of Forbes carries a Favourite verdict, a fresh-led wear.

A warmer side of the British fougere: citrus gives way to herbs, mossy woods and gentle amber sweetness. The drydown is more distinctive than the opening, with a slightly pungent edge that makes sampling worthwhile.

Top, heart and base are the brand's own listing, not a timing claim - the industry classifies a note by its character as much as by how fast it fades. Each curve here is modelled from that material's own volatility, so groups can overlap when a house lists long-lasting materials in its heart.

About

Forbes of Forbes opens with orange and mandarin, then moves towards a greener, more textured heart. Basil and pine give the fruit an aromatic edge, while oakmoss brings the shaded, slightly damp character associated with older British fragrances. The citrus provides a bright introduction rather than defining the whole perfume. As it settles, patchouli and amber become more important. Vanilla softens their edges, and clove adds a dry warmth that keeps the finish from becoming a simple sweet woody scent. There is a tension between the clean, composed opening and the darker, more pungent base. Some wearers find a comfortable, softly sweet fragrance here; others notice a sharper leathery impression within the mossy woods. That change of character is the reason to give it time on skin. It has the familiarity of a traditional masculine aromatic, but the warm base makes it less brisk than a straightforward citrus cologne. The sweetness feels restrained, with herbs and earthy woods still present as the fruit recedes. It suits someone who enjoys a little roughness and character within an otherwise composed fragrance. Spring and autumn offer a natural setting for this balance of freshness and warmth. It works as an everyday scent, with enough softness for quieter evenings and enough dry herbal detail to remain interesting through the day. Apply lightly for shared spaces. The later stages are an important part of the experience, so a quick spray on paper will tell only part of its story.
