Contradictions in ILK Nonchalant is an Extrait de Parfum launched in 2020, created by Valérie Garnuch-Mentzel. Nonchalant opens with Red Fruits, Orange, Pepper, and Raspberry, settles into a heart of Brandy, Orange Blossom, Rose, and Violet, and dries down to a base of Musk, Patchouli, Vanilla, and Benzoin. Contradictions in ILK's Nonchalant carries a Statement verdict, a fruity-led wear.

A cool, spicy rose with tart red fruits, violet and brandy over a patchouli and frankincense base. Distinctive and long-lasting, but opinions split between lipsticky glamour and a chemical edge.

Top, heart and base are the brand's own listing, not a timing claim - the industry classifies a note by its character as much as by how fast it fades. Each curve here is modelled from that material's own volatility, so groups can overlap when a house lists long-lasting materials in its heart.

When To Wear

Best Seasons

Best For:
Spring Autumn Winter

Winter leads the small vote sample, with autumn and spring close behind and summer last. The spicy rose, brandy, patchouli and balsamic base lean to cooler weather without ruling out spring.

Best Occasions

Also Works:
Office Date Casual Formal

Day and night votes are almost level and the occasion sample is five votes, so no setting dominates. One wearer calls it a good option for long working hours and another links it to a glamorous evening; the scores stay near the middle and are marked thin.

About

Nonchalant is inspired by Josephine Baker and the cool she carried: a dressing room with a bowl of red fruit and bouquets of roses, and a powder puff flung across the room. The scent opens with red fruits, raspberry, orange and pepper. Violet, rose, cinnamon, geranium and brandy form the heart, with orange blossom and labdanum adding depth, and patchouli, frankincense, musk, benzoin and vanilla finish it as a warm, balsamic base. Wearers describe a spicy, lipsticky rose rather than a soft romantic one, fresh-spicy more than warm. The fruit opening can read as generic at first; the rose then builds over the first half hour and stays fairly linear. The brandy adds a faint boozy edge and the dry-down settles into a calm, powdery, lightly sweet finish. One wearer calls it a modern twist on a classic chypre. A minority find the geranium sharp or chemical, and appreciation votes are mixed, with many neutral and a clear minority negative. Performance leans long. Most votes describe long-lasting or eternal wear with moderate projection, and one wearer reports the heart notes still present the next morning. Winter, autumn and spring are close in the season votes, with summer last, and day and night are almost level. The house pairs it with Infatuated and says the two can be layered in either order. It suits someone who wants a spicy, fruit-tinged rose and is happy to sample before committing. It is a 50ml extrait de parfum with a 20% oil concentrate. Most votes on gender lean feminine, though the house presents it as unisex.
