Dupe Perfumes Invictus is an Eau de Parfum. Invictus opens with Grapefruit and Mandarin, settles into a heart of Jasmine and Bay Leaf, and dries down to a base of Patchouli, Guaiac Wood, Oakmoss, and Ambergris. Dupe Perfumes's Invictus carries a Statement verdict, a citrus-led wear.

Dupe Conviction chases Invictus's grapefruit-and-sea-spray opening closely, but Rabanne's ambergris-oakmoss base gives way to a thinner, more generic woody-amber finish that fades hours sooner.

When To Wear

Best Seasons

Best For:
Spring Summer

The grapefruit-marine opening and light woody-amber base suit warm weather best; the cooler months expose how quickly the scent thins out.

Best Occasions

Best For:
Casual Sport

Reads casual and sporty thanks to the citrus-aquatic top, with too little base depth to carry a formal or office setting.

About

Invictus built its reputation on that instantly recognisable opening: cold grapefruit cut with a synthetic marine accord, like sea spray hitting citrus rind. Dupe Conviction gets remarkably close here - the grapefruit is bright and slightly bitter, and there's enough of that aquatic tang to trigger the same recognition most people have from Rabanne's bestseller. Where it separates is the heart and base. Invictus uses Hedione-heavy jasmine over bay leaf to keep the transition smooth and slightly spicy; this version's bay leaf reads a touch more herbal and less polished. The real gap is in the base. Rabanne layers ambergris, guaiacwood, oakmoss and patchouli into a rounded, mossy-woody finish that lingers for hours. Dupe Conviction's base is noticeably thinner - the ambergris and patchouli are there, but oakmoss barely registers and the whole thing collapses into a generic sweet-woody muskiness within a few hours rather than holding Invictus's structure. For a fraction of the price, it nails the part everyone actually smells first, the opening, which is likely why it gets compliments. Just don't expect the eight-hour aquatic-woody arc of the original; this is a scent for the first half of the day, best reapplied for evening wear.
