About

Tom Ford's Black Orchid, launched in 2006, is an inky, truffled floral, and this Match Fragrances Eau de Parfum follows its pattern. It opens with a lot going on: truffle, gardenia, blackcurrant, bergamot, jasmine and ylang-ylang, all at once, dark and slightly earthy with a floral sweetness on top. At the centre orchid and spice sit alongside lotus wood and a fruity note, keeping the mix velvety rather than sharp. The base is where it settles into something rich. Dark chocolate, patchouli, incense, vanilla, sandalwood and vetiver give a long, resinous, slightly smoky finish. Projection is moderate and it stays fairly close, lasting a good few hours. It suits the cold months and evenings, when its heaviness feels intended.
