Consolation

Consolation is built around the same idea as Lush's The Comforter, a big, snuggly blackcurrant. It opens on a generous burst of cassis, the fruity, jammy blackcurrant that gives the original its cosy, comforting signature, lifted by a bright thread of bergamot. The fruit carries through the heart, sweet and slightly syrupy, before a green, aromatic cypress grounds the drydown and keeps the sweetness from turning cloying. Set beside The Comforter, the Perfume Parlour interpretation keeps that fruity-snuggly character faithfully, wearers who own both note it lands very close at first spray, and because both are EDP concentration the budget version actually holds its own on longevity rather than fading fast. It reads a touch simpler and flatter than the original's more rounded blend, but the blackcurrant-and-cypress core is unmistakable. For a few pounds it delivers that cosy, comforting cassis signature convincingly, an easy feel-good pick for everyday wear across the milder seasons.
