Golden Currant opens on a bright, juicy black currant brushed with soft pear, the sparkling fruity start that defines Sol de Janeiro Cheirosa '76. The heart blooms into a velvety jasmine and lush freesia warmed by a creamy vanilla, holding the floral elegance that gives the original its intoxicating, 1976-discotheque character. The base settles into a soft ambergris and amberwood with a thread of caramel, lending the honeyed, ambery warmth that grounds the fruity florals. Because the original is a body mist, this EDP rendering carries the same DNA with more presence and staying power on the skin. As a budget dupe, Golden Currant smooths out some of the original's deeper caramelised-patchouli sweetness - it reads a fraction cleaner and simpler in the drydown - but the blackcurrant-jasmine-amber arc holds the recognisable shape, and steers clear of the cloying, over-sweet finish some find in the original.
