Japanese Exhibition is Perfume Parlour's take on Issey Miyake's L'Eau d'Issey Pour Homme Sport. It opens with a bright cocktail of grapefruit and bergamot, crisp and invigorating, before a warm nutmeg heart edged with a hint of leather bridges the freshness and the woods. The base grounds it in vetiver and Virginia cedar with a touch of ambergris for a clean, earthy finish. As a budget version it tracks the sporty, versatile character of the original well, but renders the spice flatter and the drydown thinner; performance is the weak point, much like the original's already-fleeting sillage, so it fades quickly and rewards a liberal application. An easy, clean daytime scent for warm weather, the gym bag and the office.
