The original became a modern staple for its effortless, natural freshness, an aquatic floral that reads clean and outdoorsy rather than synthetic, thanks in large part to its mineral labdanum-cedar drydown, and this dupe reproduces the lemon-mint opening and jasmine-peony heart with reasonable accuracy. The base is the softer spot, real Acqua Di Gioia has a distinctive, almost salty-mineral labdanum quality in its drydown that gives it real character beyond a generic woody-sweet finish, and this version simplifies that into a flatter cedar-sugar combination.
