Serge Lutens Ambre Sultan Confit de Parfum is an Extrait de Parfum launched in 1993. Ambre Sultan Confit de Parfum opens with Angelica, Oregano, Myrtle, and Coriander, settles into a heart of Resin, Amber, Benzoin, and Myrrh, and dries down to a base of Sandalwood, Patchouli, and Vanilla. Serge Lutens's Ambre Sultan Confit de Parfum carries an Acquired verdict, an amber-led wear.

Ambre Sultan turned into a balm - the same herbal-amber cult classic, but concentrated into something denser and slower that clings to skin for the better part of a day.

When To Wear

Best Seasons

Best For:
Fall Winter

A dense herbal-resinous amber built for cold weather, where its heat and richness read as comforting rather than overwhelming; the Confit's extra concentration pushes it further towards deep winter.

Best Occasions

Also Works:
Date Casual Formal

Too intense and skin-clinging for the office, but its slow-burning warmth suits intimate evening wear and relaxed occasions where projection is welcome rather than a liability.

About

Ambre Sultan is one of the defining ambers of modern niche perfumery, and the Confit de Parfum format takes that composition and thickens it into a rich, wax-like extrait concentration rather than a conventional spray. The opening keeps the same herbal shock as the original - angelica, bay leaf, coriander, myrtle and oregano crowd together into something closer to a Mediterranean kitchen garden than a perfume counter, sharp, bitter-green and faintly medicinal. In the Confit format that opening is more compressed and immediate, the herbs pressed close to skin from the first moment rather than sitting a little further off as in the eau de parfum. The heart is a dense, resinous amber built from benzoin and myrrh, warm and slightly smoky, with none of the sweetness that lesser ambers reach for. The base of patchouli, sandalwood and vanilla is where the extrait format really shows its extra weight - thicker, creamier and far longer-lasting than the spray version, more balm than mist, settling into a slow-burning skin scent that can still be detected many hours after application. This is not a fragrance that asks to be liked quickly; it rewards patience and suits someone who already loves the original and wants it turned up to its most concentrated, most tenacious form.
