The Essence Vault Anise & Vanilla - 877 is an Eau de Parfum. Anise & Vanilla - 877 opens with Bergamot, Star Anise, and Licorice, settles into a heart of Cinnamon, Clove, and Incense, and dries down to a base of Musk, Amber, and Vanilla. The Essence Vault's Anise & Vanilla - 877 carries a Statement verdict, a sweet-led wear.

No. 877 leans into the anise-and-vanilla combination Jo Malone popularised, swapping the original's neroli-and-tuberose middle for a simpler incense-and-spice base. It reads flatter and sweeter than the designer version, with the star anise pushed further forward and less of the floral lift, but the creamy vanilla drydown lands close enough for a cheap, cozy substitute.

When To Wear

Best Seasons

Best For:
Fall Winter

The warm spice, incense and vanilla base reads as a cold-weather comfort scent rather than something suited to heat, which would push the sweetness into cloying territory.

Best Occasions

Best For:
Casual
Also Works:
Date

Soft, close-wearing vanilla-spice works best for relaxed, low-key settings; the modest projection makes it a poor fit for formal, office or sport contexts.

About

Inspired by Jo Malone London's Vanilla & Anise, The Essence Vault's No. 877 keeps the licorice-tinged star anise opening that made the original distinctive, then moves straight into a soft incense-and-cinnamon heart rather than the neroli, frangipani and tuberose bouquet of the designer version. The base is where the two get closest: a warm, creamy vanilla cut with amber and musk that lingers as a comforting, slightly powdery skin scent. As a dupe it simplifies rather than replicates - the fragrance is noticeably flatter and less textured than the Jo Malone original, with the spice notes doing more of the work and the florals essentially dropped. Projection is moderate for the first couple of hours before settling into a close, intimate vanilla base that behaves more like a body mist than a statement scent. It suits relaxed autumn and winter wear - evenings at home, casual daytime layering, or anyone who wants the gourmand-spice idea of the original without the designer price tag.
