Where the original earns its reputation through a rare, creamy Mysore sandalwood base layered against dry cedar for real textural depth, No. 872 uses a more standard sandalwood accord that reads flatter and less luxurious, and the whole thing loses steam noticeably sooner. It still delivers the restrained, powdery-woody signature that makes Bois du Portugal a favourite for formal wear, just with less richness and roughly half the staying power of the original's famously long-lasting drydown.
