No. 418 takes on Diptyque's celebrated Orphéon, aiming for the same nostalgic, jazz-bar sophistication built on juniper, jasmine and a powdery cedar-tonka base. The juniper top note is recognisably crisp and slightly gin-like, though it lacks the effervescent, sparkling quality that makes Orphéon's opening so distinctive. A soft jasmine heart adds a touch of floral elegance without overwhelming the woody direction, staying true to the original's restrained approach. Cedar and tonka bean in the base give a comforting, powdery warmth reminiscent of expensive soap, though the overall effect is flatter and fades to a light skin scent sooner than Orphéon's long, magnetic trail. Still an effortlessly chic option for office or evening wear when a sophisticated, unisex woody-chypre signature is the goal, at a fraction of the designer price.
