Mathilde Laurent

France Born 0 Cartier

Laurent frequently explores a luminous, textural style that balances natural materials with synthetic molecules. Her work ranges from the minty-grapefruit transparency of Aqua Allegoria Pamplelune to the green floral structure of Baiser Volé and the feline gardenia-moss character of La Panthère. In L’Heure Perdue she used only lab-created molecules to show that synthetics can yield soft, comforting, almost tender effects rather than harsh abstraction.

About

Mathilde Laurent is a French perfumer who studied at ISIPCA in Versailles after first earning a degree in chemistry and physics. Early in the 1990s she began her career at Guerlain, initially as an intern under Jean-Paul Guerlain, and went on to work there for about 11 years. For Guerlain she composed fragrances such as Aqua Allegoria Pamplelune, Guet-Apens, No. 68, Shalimar Eau Légère and Herba Fresca. Laurent joined Cartier in 2005 and has since served as in-house perfumer and Creative Director of Perfume, creating key launches including Baiser Volé (2011), La Panthère, the Les Heures collection, Carat and L’Envol. In 2016 she introduced the oud-focused line Les Heures Voyageuses and used L’Envol in the olfactory art installation OSNI 1 - Le Nuage Parfumé at FIAC in Paris.
