United Kingdom Grossmith

Restoration work: faithful recreations of historical floral and resinous formulae within modern regulation, and one modern chypre for the same house.

About

Trevor Nicholl is a senior perfumer with Robertet UK. He is best known for his work on the revival of the British house Grossmith, which he and the owner Simon Brooke carried out by reworking the house's surviving hand-written formulae.

For the three classic Grossmith perfumes, Hasu-no-Hana, Phul-Nana and Shem-el-Nessim, he was tasked with bringing the Victorian and Edwardian formulae into line with current regulations while keeping the essence of the originals. Reviewers credit him by name for the modern Phul-Nana and Shem-el-Nessim, and a trade interview with the Brookes confirms that Robertet remastered the classics from the original formulae and antique samples.

He then composed Golden Chypre, a new formula in the Black Label Collection, launched in 2012. Fragrantica also credits him with Amelia, Saffron Rose and Diamond Jubilee Bouquet, but those credits are not confirmed by a second independent source.

No public source gives his training, his years in the industry or his place of birth, so the record states none. Robertet, the Grasse-based natural perfume house, is his employer.
