About Arkive

Arkive is a British headcare brand founded by hairstylist Adam Reed. The brand launched with a range of 11 haircare and styling products and was developed around the idea that care for the hair and scalp can also support mental wellbeing. Arkive is headquartered in London according to industry coverage, while its own materials identify Reed as the founder and describe his background in salon work, runway shows and fragrance consultancy.

Fragrance is central to Arkive's identity rather than an afterthought. Its original haircare scents include Future Bloom, built around mandarin, rhubarb, white florals, vanilla, tea rose and white musk, and No One Elsie, which combines tomato leaf, rhubarb, honeysuckle, redcurrant, palo santo and vetiver. Future Bloom draws on Reed's memory of sun-soaked summer walks, while No One Elsie references his grandmother's greenhouse. In October 2024, Arkive expanded these scent concepts into a four-fragrance eau de parfum collection designed for use on both hair and body. The range is vegan, cruelty-free, packaged partly with recycled plastic and made by a brand certified as a B Corp.

Scent DNA

Green floral musky fruity
  • Arkive's fragrances are built around recognisable botanical and memory-based contrasts, especially green tomato leaf and rhubarb against white florals, fruity accents, vanilla, woods and musk
  • They are designed to work as hair perfumes as well as conventional body fragrance, giving the range a lighter, more casual presentation than traditional perfume houses

  • → More focused on emotional scent concepts than OUAI

Who It's For

Best For

  • Hair-and-body fragrance wearers
  • Clean, mood-oriented scent profiles
  • People who prefer soft floral and green compositions
  • Fans of affordable independent beauty brands

Strengths & Weaknesses

Strengths

  • Distinctive green and botanical accents
  • Easy-to-wear floral and musky structures
  • Hair-and-body versatility
  • Clear founder-led fragrance concept

Weaknesses

  • Limited fragrance catalogue compared with established perfume houses
  • Generally restrained projection
  • Several scents are closely tied to the same core haircare fragrance direction

Brand Evolution

Arkive began as a headcare line in 2022, with fragrance integrated into shampoos, conditioners and styling products. It later developed the original haircare scents into standalone eau de parfums, with a four-scent collection launched in October 2024. The brand subsequently added The Brightside as a fifth fragrance, using CPL Aromas' AromaWellness Positivity technology.

Quick Verdict

Arkive is more convincing as a modern scented headcare brand than as a highly experimental perfume house. Its best work is approachable, botanical and immediately identifiable, but the relatively soft compositions may disappoint wearers seeking major projection or complex development.
