Filippo Sorcinelli
Italian art-driven niche house rooted in sacred couture, incense, and experimental storytelling.
Filippo Sorcinelli is an Italian niche fragrance brand created by the multidisciplinary artist and tailor Filippo Sorcinelli. Based on the brand's own account, the perfume project grew out of his ecclesiastical couture atelier LAVS, which designs liturgical vestments. In 2014, he launched the first fragrance of the UNUM collection as an extension of this work, treating scent as a form of "olfactory tailoring" closely linked to sacred spaces, textiles, and ritual.
The brand has since expanded into several collections, including UNUM, SAUF, and Extrait de Musique, many of which are inspired by gothic art, classical and sacred music, photography, fog, and religious symbolism. Sorcinelli himself is also an organist and has created scents that reference organ stops from the Grand Orgue of Notre Dame in Paris, as noted by Luckyscent. Signature perfumes such as But Not Today, influenced by the film Hannibal (2001), and Lascia ch'io pianga, named after Handel's aria, show his tendency to anchor compositions in specific artistic works and emotionally charged narratives.
Beyond perfumery, the company positions itself as a lifestyle and art project that spans fashion, design, and events, but fragrance remains its best-known international activity. The scents frequently explore themes of spirituality, mortality, and emotional intensity, often using incense, smoke, metallic nuances, and church-like atmospheres to create highly atmospheric compositions that appeal most to adventurous niche-fragrance enthusiasts.
A niche, luxury house known for incense compositions.
The perfume venture began in 2014 as a direct offshoot of Sorcinelli's LAVS liturgical atelier, originally focused on UNUM and strongly church-centered scents. Over time, the brand broadened its scope through lines like SAUF and Extrait de Musique, still anchored in religious and musical themes but experimenting with metallic, animalic, and cinematic references. Recent releases show a continued push toward narrative-driven, emotionally intense compositions rather than chasing broader commercial appeal.
Filippo Sorcinelli is a niche house for people who want perfume to feel like conceptual art, not background scent. If you enjoy incense, drama, and challenging themes, it belongs on your test list; if you want easy compliments, look elsewhere.
