Gisou

Honey-centered Amsterdam hair and beauty brand with a growing line of sweet, floral hair perfumes.

About Gisou

Gisou is a Dutch beauty brand founded in 2015 by influencer and beekeeper Negin Mirsalehi, launched together with her fiancé Maurits Stibbe. The company is based in Amsterdam and grew out of a six-generation family beekeeping tradition, using honey sourced from the Mirsalehi Bee Garden as its core ingredient across hair, complexion, and fragrance products.

The brand began with a single SKU, Honey Infused Hair Oil, adapted from a homemade formula created by Mirsalehi’s mother, a hairdresser who experimented with honey-based hair treatments. Introduced in November 2015, the hair oil sold out in under three months and remains the brand’s global bestseller. Building on that success, Gisou has expanded the line with Honey Infused Hair Mask, Hair Wash and Conditioner, Hair Perfume, and additional styling products, as well as Honey Infused Face Oil (2021) and Honey Infused Lip Oil (2022).

Gisou’s fragrance identity is closely tied to its honey-infused hair perfumes and scented haircare, which center around a sweet, floral, gourmand honey profile often framed by soft fruits and warm woods. According to brand materials and interviews, all honey and propolis are sourced from the family’s Mirsalehi Bee Garden, and product development emphasizes sustainable beekeeping practices and controlled sourcing.

From 2020 onward, distribution has broadened significantly, including launches at Sephora U.S. and availability in more than 30 countries, while retaining the founder-led storytelling around bees, family heritage, and honey-based formulas. The brand continues to add new honey-inspired launches, including region-specific variants like Honey Infused Hair Perfume Wild Rose, and positions its scent offerings as extensions of its core honey haircare line rather than as a standalone fine fragrance portfolio.

Strengths & Weaknesses

Strengths

  • Strong founder story and bee-centric ingredient sourcing
  • Good availability through major beauty retailers and online

  • Value can feel stretched compared to niche perfume pricing for similar profiles

Brand Evolution

Gisou started strictly as a honey-based haircare line anchored by the Honey Infused Hair Oil, with scent as a secondary benefit. Over time, demand for the recognizable honey aroma led to dedicated scented products like Hair Perfume and extended Honey Infused ranges. Recent launches, including variants such as Hair Perfume Wild Rose and complexion products, show a gradual shift toward treating fragrance as a more intentional pillar of the brand while keeping honey at the center of every formula.

Quick Verdict

A focused, honey-obsessed brand that excels at sweet, approachable hair and body scents but offers limited range for those seeking variety or high-art perfumery. Best viewed as scented beauty with strong personality rather than a full-spectrum fragrance house.
