Jéroboam
Parisian musk-focused extrait house built on a shared Origino base and compact 30 ml bottles.
Jéroboam is a French niche perfume house created in 2015 by François Hénin, the founder of Jovoy perfumes and boutiques. Based in Paris, the line was born from a collaboration with independent perfumer Vanina Muracciole, who developed a dense musk accord called Origino. Originally a creative experiment, this highly concentrated musk cocktail became the starting point for an entire brand focused on extrait de parfum strength.
From the beginning, Jéroboam has centered its identity on musk. According to the brand, Origino functions as a shared base that appears in all the perfumes, providing a recognisable signature and extended lasting power. The house works almost exclusively in extrait concentration, and its 30 ml bottles are intentionally small yet potent, named tongue in cheek after a six‑liter champagne format. Jéroboam describes its focus as "perfume extracts for urban nomads," aiming for compact, travel‑friendly bottles filled with high impact scent.
Fragrance names such as Origino, Oriento, and Insulo are taken from Esperanto, reflecting the brand's goal of creating a broadly understandable, "universal" style of musk-based perfumery. Hénin has explained in interviews that Jéroboam deliberately exaggerates the base and reworks the traditional fragrance pyramid, while Muracciole pays particular attention to vivid, lifting top notes. Together they have built a range that explores different facets of musk, from gourmand vanilla pairings to resinous woods and spiced orientals.
Over time, Jéroboam has expanded its collection to more than a dozen fragrances while maintaining its core formula of saturated musks and extrait concentration. The line is distributed through specialist retailers and niche boutiques rather than mass channels, positioning it as a focused, high-intensity musk house rather than a generalist luxury brand.
A niche, luxury house known for musk compositions.
Since its launch in 2015 with Origino and early releases like Oriento, Jéroboam has steadily added new compositions that tweak the shared musk base in different directions, from sweeter vanilla-focused scents to darker resin and patchouli-driven options. The core concept of small extrait bottles and Esperanto names has remained stable, while the palette of accords around Origino has widened. Rather than chasing seasonal trends, the house has doubled down on its musk DNA, refining how that signature is dressed up rather than attempting a complete stylistic shift.
If you enjoy dense, long-lasting musks and do not mind a bold scent presence, Jéroboam is worth serious attention. Those who prefer sheer, airy compositions or minimal musk will likely find this line too heavy-handed for everyday wear.
