Marc-Antoine Barrois
Parisian couture-born niche house known for leathery, woody and mineral compositions created with Quentin Bisch.
Marc-Antoine Barrois is a French couturier based in Paris who launched his namesake couture house in 2009 before entering perfumery in 2016. After years of tailoring bespoke suits and tuxedos for a private clientele, a client suggestion prompted him to create a fragrance, resulting in his debut scent B683 in 2016, produced initially in a run of only 500 bottles. The brand’s perfumes are developed in close partnership with perfumer Quentin Bisch of Givaudan, a collaboration that began with B683 and has continued across the line.
The fragrance collection is produced in France and presented as an extension of Barrois’s couture work, with a focus on carefully crafted materials and a restrained aesthetic. The house is known for characterful compositions like B683 and its extrait-leaning flanker B683 Extrait, the darker and smokier Ganymede with its mineral-leathery profile, and Tilia, which centers on linden blossom within a warm, luminous structure. Later releases such as Encelade and Aldebaran continue the theme of textured woods, leather, and green or mineral notes, often contrasted with a luminous, airy side rather than heavy sweetness.
Although the brand grew out of menswear, the perfumes are positioned as shareable and are often described by reviewers as distinctive yet relatively streamlined, favoring clear structures over cluttered note lists. The collection remains compact but tightly curated, with each release intended to expand an interconnected wardrobe of scents rather than chase trends or seasonal limited editions.
A niche, luxury house known for leather compositions.
The brand started in 2016 with B683, a spicy leather inspired by Barrois’s childhood memories and couture sensibility. With Ganymede, the house leaned into a more mineral, airy leather that broadened its audience among niche fans. Subsequent launches such as Encelade, Tilia and Aldebaran have explored green, woody and luminous floral themes while maintaining the same pared-back, tailored signature, building a cohesive wardrobe rather than shifting toward mainstream gourmand or mass-appeal styles.
If you like dry, mineral and leather-forward niche perfumes with a couture-level attention to detail, this house is worth serious exploration. If you want sugary crowd-pleasers, look elsewhere.
