About Off-White™

Off-White™ is an Italian luxury fashion label created by American designer Virgil Abloh in Milan in 2013, evolving out of his earlier project Pyrex Vision launched in 2012. The brand name reflects Abloh’s idea of a grey zone between black and white, which he used as a conceptual framework for clothing, objects and visual culture. Off-White quickly became a key player in luxury streetwear, blending Italian production with graphic-heavy, concept-led design.

Off-White entered fragrance and beauty in 2022 with the Paperwork line, introduced shortly after Abloh’s death in 2021 as one of his final projects. Paperwork launched first with the Solution fragrances, a numbered series (01, 02, 03, 04 and subsequent additions) created with perfumers such as Alexis Dadier, Sidonie Lancesseur, Jérôme Epinette, Steve Guo and Emilie Bouge. The scents are marketed as genderless and positioned as tools for self-expression rather than traditional “for him/for her” perfumes.

Corporate ownership has shifted over time. LVMH acquired a 60% stake in Off-White in 2021, then sold the brand to Bluestar Alliance in 2024. In 2024, Interparfums SA announced that it had secured the fragrance and cosmetics trademarks for Off-White and would begin commercial use of the fragrance brands after an existing license expires at the end of 2025. This move signals a build-out of Off-White’s presence in the fragrance market beyond the initial Paperwork launch.

Within perfumery, Off-White is known for high-end pricing, minimalist bottle design and compositions that sit between conceptual niche and mainstream designer accessibility. The brand’s numbered Solutions emphasize texture, unusual note pairings and a unisex positioning aligned with Abloh’s broader interest in youth culture, art and experimental design.

Positioning

A designer, luxury house known for aromatic compositions.

How It Compares

  • Conceptually closer to Byredo
  • Less classically polished than Chanel
  • Priced similarly to or above Tom Ford

Who It's For

Best For

  • Fashion-conscious collectors who follow Virgil Abloh’s work
  • Unisex daily wear with a contemporary twist
  • Creative layering with other modern niche or designer scents
  • Evening and events where a subtle but distinctive scent fits
  • Fans of luxury streetwear aesthetics extended into beauty

Strengths & Weaknesses

Strengths

  • Clear visual identity and cohesive numbered “Solution” concept across the line
  • Genderless positioning that avoids stereotypical masculine/feminine tropes
  • Well-produced compositions that feel modern and polished rather than retro
  • Strong brand story tied to Virgil Abloh’s creative legacy

Weaknesses

  • Price sits high, often above established luxury designers, which many reviewers criticize as steep for 100 ml.[12][14]
  • Distribution is relatively limited compared with big heritage fragrance houses, so sampling can be difficult.
  • The aesthetic skews cool and conceptual; those seeking rich, classic perfumery signatures may find the line too understated or stylized.

Brand Evolution

Off-White’s fragrance arm started only in 2022, so its evolution is mainly about expanding the Paperwork concept rather than shifting away from it. The initial four Solutions introduced the brand’s genderless, toolkit framing, and later numbers such as Solution No. 8 extended this palette with warmer amber-floral ideas while keeping the same minimal, numbered format. With Interparfums SA taking over fragrance and cosmetics trademarks from 2026, the line is likely to broaden into more distribution channels and possibly more segmented sub-lines while retaining the Off-White visual and unisex codes.

Quick Verdict

These are modern, visually sharp, concept-led perfumes that will appeal to Off-White fans and niche-curious designer buyers, but the high price and relatively subtle scent profiles may feel underwhelming if you expect big performance or classic luxury heft.
