About Pigmentarium

Pigmentarium is an independent Czech perfume house founded in Prague in 2018 by creative director Tomáš Ric, initially together with perfumer Jakub F. Hiermann. Conceived as the first Czech niche perfume brand, Pigmentarium was built to reflect local craftsmanship, Czech cultural history and a strong connection to contemporary art and design. The name references pigments and Latin inscriptions found on historic Prague façades, signalling a close link between visual and olfactory creation.

The debut fragrance, Ad Libitum, launched in autumn 2018 and serves as the brand’s foundational composition and ongoing manifesto. Created with Hiermann, it was financed by Ric himself and positioned as a personal portrait of Prague, balancing modern aldehydic brightness with classic bergamot and a more intimate, layered structure underneath. Ad Libitum was followed by early releases such as Murmur, Erotikon and Paradiso, all genderless perfumes produced locally using high quality essential oils and natural ingredients. Over time, the collection expanded to include interior scents and design objects, with new perfumes typically added each year.

For its first six fragrances, Pigmentarium worked primarily with Czech independent perfumer Jakub F. Hiermann. The seventh fragrance, Oratorio, marked a new stage, created with French perfumer Théo Belmas and described by Ric as the beginning of a fresh artistic dynamic for the house. Limited editions such as Azabache, presented at Paris Fashion Week 2021, have helped position the brand within the international niche scene while retaining its strong Prague identity.

Pigmentarium remains privately held and focused on controlled, organic growth to preserve its independence and creative freedom.
