Amarula is the South African cream liqueur built on the fruit of the marula tree. In perfumery it is used as a gourmand drink accord, not as a fruit note. Every reachable source describes the same dessert shape: dairy cream, caramel and toffee, a mild chocolate-and-coffee tone, and the marula fruit itself only as a background exotic sweetness.

Scent Profile

Lactonic leads because the product is a cream liqueur and the retailer's own copy says 'Full creamy taste with hints of exotic marula fruit'. Sweet_vanillic sits almost level with it and is the most corroborated claim in the set: Wikipedia gives 'the taste of slightly fruity caramel', Spirits Review gives 'toffee', and The Rum Howler gives 'butterscotch, vanilla'. Three independent sources, three words for the same caramel-vanilla register. Coffee_cacao comes from one source only, 'mild chocolate and coffee aromas', and the word 'mild' is why it stays below rather than joining the leads. Tropical and fruity are the marula fruit, held low on purpose: both sources that name the fruit name it as a hint or a background flavour, never as the lead.
