Anisaldehyde
Note Profile
About
Sweet, powdery hawthorn floral with an aniseed edge
Scent Profile
Anisaldehyde smells sweet, powdery and intensely floral, like hawthorn blossom and mimosa. A clear aniseed note runs through it, sweeter and more floral than the spice itself. Under that sits a warm, coumarin-like sweetness with vanilla and dry hay. Faint almond and berry touches sit at the edges.

Anisaldehyde 4-methoxybenzaldehyde hay · hawthorn · mimosa
Smell words come from published sources.
A given perfume with this note may use this material, or something else.
Origin
Anisaldehyde is 4-methoxybenzaldehyde (CAS 123-11-5), a single aroma molecule. It is a colourless to slightly yellow liquid. It is the main volatile of strawberry flower and gives the anise note of anise-type oils.
Usage in Perfumery
Perfumers use it to build hawthorn, lilac, mimosa and cherry blossom accords. It is a stable substitute for heliotropin in soap. It is strong and diffusive, so it is used at low levels.
