Bitters
Note Profile
About
Spiced, bitter-root cocktail tincture
Scent Profile
Bitters smells of warm baking spice, cinnamon and clove first, over a dry, bitter herbal root. High-proof alcohol carries it, sharp and boozy. Underneath sit warm, earthy undertones and a dry bark note, with a little citrus peel and a touch of vanilla sweetness.

ScentArt
Origin
Bitters are alcohol-based tinctures of aromatic herbs, bark, roots and fruit peel. Aromatic bitters, the most common kind, combine spices such as cinnamon, clove and nutmeg with bittering agents such as gentian root and cinchona bark.
Usage in Perfumery
Bitters are sold to season cocktails by the dash. In perfume the note stands for the smell of the bottle: warm spice and bitter root carried on alcohol, beside boozy, spiced and woody accords.
