Bouvardia
Note Profile
About
Citrus-lifted orange flower and jasmine base
Scent Profile
Bouvardia opens bright and citrus-fresh, then turns to a delicate white floral of orange flower and jasmine, with a clear neroli side. A soft rose note and a nectar-like sweetness sit in the heart. A faint green leafiness and a light powdery violet touch close it. It reads as refined and slightly ambiguous, between citrus and flower.

Origin
Bouvardia is a genus of flowering shrubs, and its flower is almost never distilled. In perfumery the name means a compounded base. The best known is De Laire's 20th century Bouvardia base, a citrus top with orange flower and jasmine. Other houses made other bouvardia bases, such as Roure's methyl ionone floral Bouvardia 125.
Usage in Perfumery
Perfumers use the De Laire base as a top-note nuancer for bergamot accords and as a citrus-floral lift. Its maker classed it as a jasmine and rose type material. In a formula printed as 'bouvardia' it stands for a light white-floral accord rather than an extract.
