Note Profile
Burnt Match is a smoky, sulfurous accord that recalls a match immediately after it has been extinguished. It reads as dry, sharp, and slightly acrid, with an ashy mineral edge.
The scent profile is centered on smoke, struck-flint dryness, and a fleeting sulfuric tang that quickly softens into ash and char. In composition it can feel dark, edgy, and industrial, often reading as more precise and smaller in scale than broad smoke notes.
Burnt Match is not a natural material but a perfumery accord built to evoke the smell of an extinguished match head and its surrounding smoke. In practice it is typically recreated with smoky, tarry, sulfurous, and mineralic materials rather than any literal match ingredient.
Perfumers use Burnt Match for ignition effects, smoky openings, and to add a sharp burnt accent to leather, woody, incense, or industrial accords. It is usually a top-to-heart effect because the match-like brightness is brief, though the ashy residue can linger into the base.
