Calamondin comes from the peel of the calamondin fruit (Citrus × microcarpa / Citrofortunella microcarpa), a hybrid between a mandarin orange and a kumquat cultivated widely in Southeast Asia and the Philippines. The essential oil is typically obtained by cold-pressing the fresh fruit peel, similar to other citrus oils. Botanically it produces small orange to reddish fruits with aromatic peel rich in limonene and related terpenes, contributing both culinary and aromatic uses.
