About

Nobody extracts this. Caramel popcorn is a compounded fragrance oil built to match the confection, so every version is somebody's formula rather than a material with one analysis. The parts are the same across compounders. Pyrazines and furans carry the toasted kernel, diacetyl and delta-lactones carry the butter, caramel furanones and ethyl maltol carry the glaze, and a salt effect is added on top. CandleScience names sea salt in the blend and Scent Method adds cinnamon and malt that CandleScience does not.

Usage in Perfumery

A gourmand heart-to-base note for compositions that want a fairground or cinema reference. It sits next to popcorn, salted caramel, toffee and butterscotch, all of which this vocabulary holds, and its job is to be the one that is both salty and grainy at once. It overloads quickly, and Mimya's example of it working shows it framed by fruity top notes rather than left bare.
