Origin
Chasteberry is the fruit of Vitex agnus-castus, a Mediterranean shrub also called monk's pepper. Its essential oil is steam-distilled from the berries. Some suppliers distil leaf and berry together, which gives a different oil.
Usage in Perfumery
It is rare in perfumery. One supplier says it is 'not typically used within perfumery' but can add interesting notes to a blend. Suppliers pair it with clary sage, lavender, geranium and chamomile, and call it a middle note.
