Scent Profile

Tropical leads because the coconut half carries the identity and both trade sources reach for the same picture: 'sunny beaches and tropical landscapes' (Bon Parfumeur), 'tropical and festive atmospheres' (Parfinity). It sits just under plain coconut at 0.72, because the rum dilutes the fruit rather than adding to it. Sweet_vanillic and lactonic are level on purpose and come from opposite sides of the compound. Sweet_vanillic is Parfinity's 'molasses, caramel, vanilla' on the rum. Lactonic is Bon Parfumeur's 'smooth, and milky' and 'soft, creamy' on the coconut pulp. Neither source ranks one above the other and this note is both halves at once. Boozy is the spirit, and it carries the widest spread in the vector at 0.20, because one reviewer reads it as liquory and undeniable while the daytime pina colada readings barely mention alcohol. Fruity covers the dried-fruit and cherry readings that appear when the note is paired with dark fruit. Below the line, nutty is the coconut flesh, creamy_woody and dry_woody are Parfinity's 'woody warmth' from ageing.

Origin

Not an extracted material and not an aroma chemical. It is two documented accords put together. Parfinity describes the rum side as rich, warm and sweet with molasses, caramel, vanilla and a boozy undertone, made from synthetic compounds rather than alcohol. Bon Parfumeur describes the coconut side as smooth, milky and slightly sweet, like fresh coconut pulp. No supplier we found sells a coconut rum base with its own datasheet.

Usage in Perfumery

Perfumers print it two ways. Lorenzo Pazzaglia's Evil Angel 28.09 lists Coconut and Rum as adjacent notes. Victoria's Secret Cherry Elixir No. 33 lists Coconut rum as one compound note, and the reviewer there reads it as black cherry dipped in rum rather than as a beach. Blndrgrphy's 05 Santal Painkiller pairs it with pineapple and reviewers name a pina colada outright. So the same term swings between a dark boozy fruit reading and a bright tropical one depending on what sits next to it.
