About

Prunella is a Firmenich captive base, sold as Prunella and as Prunella 975617. It is the trade's standard dried-plum accord. It is not the plant Prunella vulgaris, and it is not the fruit note plum.

Scent Profile

Fruity leads, and all three resellers lead with the same words: 'a powerful note reminiscent of the odor of ripe plums'. It is set above the published plum note's 0.80 because for plum the fruit is one facet among several, while here every source treats ripe plum and prune as the whole character. Sweet_vanillic carries the 'dried fruit sweetness' and the 'sweet, rich' of the Perfumer Supply House description. Boozy is the raisin and prune-compote side of that same dried-fruit claim. Lactonic is the 'subtle coconut nuances' and the 'smooth velvety texture' that Fraterworks names and the other two do not, which is why it sits low. Honeyed is the sticky dried-fruit sweetness rather than a separate honey claim. A trace of tobacco_hay and creamy_woody follows the published plum note and the tobacco partner the resellers name.

Origin

A compounded base from Firmenich, not a single molecule and not a natural extract. One reseller gives the compositional detail that it is 'built around an overdose of phenoxyethyl isobutyrate'. No CAS number appears on any reachable page. It is cited as the plum accord behind Dior Poison and Chanel Egoiste.

Usage in Perfumery

Used to place a dark, dried stone-fruit body in a heart or a drydown. Resellers agree on the same partners: vanilla, tobacco, rose and rose ketones, patchouli and other fruit bases. It is the material a perfumer reaches for when a plum needs to read as prune rather than as fresh fruit.
