About

Eucalyptus acorn is the woody seed capsule of a eucalyptus, the structure normally called a gumnut. It is not an acorn, which is an oak fruit. The name looks like a shape-based nickname. One house calls the same part a eucalyptus cone. Every source that describes it agrees on one thing: it is woodier and more resinous than the leaf oil.

Scent Profile

Cooling mentholic and dry woody are both and they are level on purpose, because the two sources that describe a smell disagree about which one leads. D.S. & Durga give the cone one phrase, 'resinous and woody', and withhold the camphor words they spend on the leaf oil in the same paragraph. The Omos substack, handling gumnuts, reports 'the pungent aroma of fresh eucalyptus' filling a room within minutes, which is the camphoraceous lead. One source per claim and no tie-break, so neither is promoted over the other. Amber resinous follows straight from the word resinous. Aromatic herbal is the eucalypt background both sources imply and neither states on its own, so it is scored under the two leads. Green, citrus and honeyed all come from one trace phrase, 'hints of green citrus, avocado, mint and honey', and are held at trace because that is the word the writer used. Every spread here is 0.15 or wider. The descriptive base is two sentences by two writers and the vector should not pretend to more.

Origin

The hard capsule of a Eucalyptus species, Myrtaceae, left on the branch after the flower drops. No supplier sells eucalyptus cone or eucalyptus acorn as a standalone raw material with its own datasheet, so in practice a perfumer builds the note as an accord rather than distilling it. Attested on Parfumo in 3 fragrances across 3 brands, including Roos & Roos Globulus and Calvin Klein Women.

Usage in Perfumery

Used beside eucalyptus leaf oil rather than instead of it, to carry the tree past the opening. D.S. & Durga pair eucalyptus globulus in the top of Big Sur Eucalyptus with eucalyptus cone in the base. Parfumo lists the acorn as a top note in the two other fragrances found, so houses do not agree on where it sits.
