Grapefruit Wood
Note Profile
About
Grapefruit wood is a fantasy accord, not a timber. No botanist names a wood by this name and no supplier sells an oil by it. It reads as grapefruit peel laid over a pale, quiet wood. The vector is a wide guess held up by one perfume pyramid and one user review, and it should be read that way.
Scent Profile
Citrus leads because the only perfume whose pyramid can be read places the note in the opening next to bergamot, and the one community review of that perfume names 'fresh grapefruit' first. Dry_woody is the other half of the compound name and is held below the citrus and below its siblings lemon-tree-wood 0.58 and orange-tree-wood 0.62, because in the only formula I can inspect the woody work is done by cedar in the base, not by this note. Everything else is under the naming line and is inference, not quotation: fruity for grapefruit flesh, creamy_woody because the reviewer's word for the woods was 'white' rather than dry or resinous, sour and mineral each because published grapefruit carries both, and green, clean_musk and amber_resinous at trace. The perfume's listed accords also include floral, creamy and powdery. Those come from its iris and musk and are deliberately not scored here.
ScentWheel
Read off the wheel, not a label applied to the note.
Origin
There is no 'grapefruit wood' in the timber trade and no extract sold under the name. Citrus x paradisi wood is not a commercial aromatic material. The note appears to be coined by marketing, in the same family as the published lemon-tree-wood and orange-tree-wood, for a fresh citrus-tinted wood impression built from grapefruit materials over a light woody base.
Usage in Perfumery
2 Parfumo placements across 2 brands, none on Fragrantica. Parfumo tracks the note in 4 perfumes from 2009 to 2025 and says it often sits in the base. The one release with a public pyramid, Zara Wood Collection 01: Pure, contradicts that and puts it on top beside bergamot, with cedar supplying the base wood separately.
