Powdery leads, on the one direct description found: 'a smooth, powdery, and elegant floral core'. It sits below the published iris note's 0.82 and below orris because the sources call this a 'modern, airy take' rather than dense cosmetic powder. Aldehydic is the other half of the name and the thing that separates this from iris. No source says 'aldehydic' about the finished effect, so the number rests on the material class the term names plus the words 'modern, airy' and 'sharpened'. It is set well below aldehyde-c-12's 0.82 because this is an aldehyde chosen to serve iris, not a soapy waxy aldehyde in its own right. Floral is FragranceReview's 'soft floral undertone', higher than iris's because both sources reach for flower language and neither reaches for root. Creamy_woody and leather are the same claim read twice: 'suede-like' appears in both of MHG Boutique's descriptions, and suede is where soft wood and soft skin meet. Clean_musk is the soapy-clean edge aldehydes add to a floral. Below the naming line: dry_woody and mineral for the rooty backbone that orris keeps, earthy held low but not zero, sweet_vanillic. Earthy is the important small number. Sources describe this as cleaner than raw orris, but none of them states that the earthiness is gone, so it is reduced from iris's 0.35 and not removed.

Origin

Not a single identified molecule. The term is used for aldehydic materials selected to sit with iris, and is written 'Aldehydes of Iris' in the marketing copy for Giorgio Armani's Armani Code Parfum by Antoine Maisondieu, where it is paired with natural Moroccan orris. No CAS number, PubChem record or fragrance-house technical sheet was found for anything named 'iris aldehyde'.

Usage in Perfumery

Used where a composition wants iris powder without orris root's earthiness, and wants lift with it. In Armani Code Parfum it forms the heart with orris and clary sage, over tonka bean and cedar. Attested on 3 Parfumo perfumes across 3 brands.
