Calla Lily is a fantasy accord, not an extraction. Zantedeschia aethiopica is barely scented and yields no perfumery material, so the note is built to match how the flower looks: cool, white, architectural, minimal. Trade sources disagree about whether it is sweet or not, so sweet_vanillic carries a spread larger than its value.

Scent Profile

A cool white_floral leads, clean and stemmy rather than indolic or heady. A softer general floral sits under it. A chalky mineral facet is named twice by the one source that describes the accord, and it is what separates this from muguet. A green facet reads as cut stem, not leaf. A powdery facet carries the pollen-dusting that the Perfume Society describes, and a waxy_fatty facet carries the 'waxy, soft floral quality' from the same sentence. Both are contested: the other two sources describe this flower without any waxiness at all. A clean_musk base comes straight from the white musks named in the construction. Below those, a small sweet_vanillic warmth and a trace of lactonic creaminess.

Origin

Zantedeschia aethiopica, a southern African arum, not a true lily. Premiere Peau states it plainly: 'No perfumery extraction exists. Zantedeschia produces negligible volatile compounds. Entirely synthetic.' The same page names the construction, which is the most specific evidence found for this note: 'clean, minimal floral elements (hedione, muguet bases), white musks, and chalky/mineral notes'. The Perfume Society records the flower as pollen-rich and gives it 'a waxy, soft floral quality, in perfumes - almost as if it lightly dusts the perfume with pollen'.

Usage in Perfumery

Used as a cool white-floral heart in clean, minimal and so-called architectural compositions, and in bridal and funeral-flower references where the visual symbol carries more weight than any smell the plant has. It works where muguet or a soapy white floral would be too sweet.
