Mariposa lily names the Calochortus genus of western North America. It is not a Lilium. The flowers are not extracted, so no oil, absolute or headspace product exists. The note is a reconstructed accord, built mainly from muguet molecules such as hydroxycitronellal, with clean musks and a green touch. In Cuban-themed perfumes, 'mariposa' can mean a different flower, the white ginger lily (Hedychium coronarium).

Usage in Perfumery

A heart floral used where a white flower must stay transparent. It is lighter than gardenia, more transparent than magnolia, less intense than lily of the valley and less indolic than true lily. It suits airy, soapy-clean florals rather than heady ones.
