About

Soft civet animalic with white flowers

Scent Profile

Lactoscatone smells animalic, like a lighter, softer civet. A faecal, slightly indolic edge runs through it, in the direction of skatole but much less forceful. A warm, ambery side and a dusty quality sit around it, and in a white flower it reads as heady, opulent petal.

Origin

Lactoscatone is a Symrise aroma chemical, CAS 21280-29-5. Symrise calls it a renewable molecule. It is a lactone made to give a skatole-like animal note.

Usage in Perfumery

Perfumers use it in civet and castoreum reconstructions. In trace it adds the opulence of gardenia and tuberose to white floral accords. Symrise recommends up to 1% in a fragrance.
