Mandarine meringue is a gourmand accord: mandarin peel over whipped sugar and egg white. No source describes the combination, so this is built from the two halves. Citrus and sweet_vanillic sit level because the term names both and neither source gives one priority over the other.

Scent Profile

Citrus and sweet_vanillic are deliberately level. The term names mandarin first but the head noun is meringue, and no source ranks them, so splitting them by guesswork would be inventing a difference. Citrus is sweet-tart peel, not sharp zest, following the supplier's own word 'smooth'. Sweet_vanillic is powdered sugar and vanillin, from the published meringue note where it leads. It is lower here because the citrus takes half the room. Fruity is the mandarin's flesh rather than its peel. Lactonic and powdery come straight from meringue, where they sit each. Clean_musk, floral(the 'slight floral undertone' the supplier names), sour, honeyed, nutty and warm_spice are trace.

Origin

A compound term, not a material. Nobody sells a mandarine meringue extract. The mandarin half is cold-pressed Citrus reticulata peel oil, which Eden Botanicals describes as a 'smooth, sweet-tart citrus aroma typical of Mandarin with a slight floral undertone' used 'as a modifier for other citrus oils... or as a particular note for special effects'. The meringue half is the accord already published here, built from vanillin, ethyl maltol and lactones. A perfume literally called Meringue does list mandarin in its top, but its own reviewers say it has nothing to do with the dessert, so that product is not used as evidence.

Usage in Perfumery

A top-and-heart gourmand. The mandarin gives lift and stops the sugar from sitting flat. The meringue gives the body. It is used the way other citrus-plus-sugar accords are used, next to vanilla, white musk and cream notes, and it is lighter than a baked-pastry note because there is no crust or butter in it.
