Orange soda is a beverage accord for a chilled fizzy orange soft drink. Sweet orange leads it and both trade formulations open on that. Under the orange sits a carbonation effect and a sweetener, and the two sources do not agree on which. It is sweeter and much less bitter than orange peel, and it is not sour the way lemon soda is.

Scent Profile

citrus is the note and both sources lead with it: 'the fragrance of strong orange fizzy soda' from one, 'a radiant burst of fresh orange, zesty and bright' from the other. It is sweet orange, not bitter orange, and one source stacks lemon zest and grapefruit behind it. sweet_vanillic is the sugar of the drink and the 'vanilla background' Indigo Fragrance names outright. It is held below lemon-soda's 0.45 because the second source names no sweetener at all, which is also why its spread is the widest in the vector. fruity is the juiciness both sources report, 'the juicy joy of your favorite citrus pop', and it sits above lemon-soda's fruity because nothing here is described as tart. aquatic_ozonic is the fizz, which Wicked Good treats as a smell and puts in the heart: 'a playful effervescence of bubbly seltzer'. Indigo Fragrance agrees the fizz is perceptible - 'you can smell the fizz'. cooling_mentholic is the 'crushed ice accord' Wicked Good names as the base, a cold, crisp finish with no mint behind it. Only one source reports it, so its spread. Below those sit mineral for the carbonic bite, clean_musk, floral for the trace orange oil carries anyway, sour and a small green. sour is held low on purpose: no source calls this note tart, and that is what separates it from lemon-soda.

Origin

A fantasy accord. Nothing is extracted to make it. Craft fragrance-oil houses sell it under the drink's own name, and one names Sunkist as the model. Indigo Fragrance builds it from orange, orange peel, lemon zest and grapefruit over a vanilla base. Wicked Good builds it as fresh orange over a 'bubbly seltzer' heart and a 'crushed ice' base, and names no vanilla at all. The fizz is carried by ozonic and mineral materials, not by anything actually carbonated.

Usage in Perfumery

Used as a top note to open a fragrance on something a wearer reads as a soft drink rather than a fruit. It carries the lift of orange with none of the peel's bitterness, so it suits playful summer and gourmand-adjacent work. Pair it with sugar, vanilla and light musk, or with an ozonic accord if you want the seltzer reading instead.
