Scent Profile

Citrus leads and it is the one constant across every source and both reviews. The maker's own consumer summary starts with 'zesty' and names 'orange peel essences' as the cause. It sits under plain orange at 0.85, because the peel here is distilled into spirit rather than pressed, which softens the bright top. Boozy carries the widest spread in the vector at 0.22, and that is the honest state of the evidence. Osmoz names 'liquor notes', Mirabile's reviewer reads rum, and Joop! Muse's reviewer says there is nothing boozy in it at all. Sweet_vanillic is the 'toffee' end of the maker's own range and the 'caramelized vibe' the Muse reviewer names. Fruity is Osmoz's 'waves of fruit notes (red berries, lime)'. Floral is the maker's third word, 'floral', and one of the seven families on its wheel. Below the line, green is the 'cut grass' end of the same range, fresh_spice and warm_spice split the wheel's spicy family, and animalic is a token for the animal family the wheel names without describing.

Origin

A branded orange liqueur from Remy Cointreau, made from sweet and bitter orange peel essences distilled into neutral spirit. The maker calls it 'a captivating ode to orange' and says it 'owes this impact to a complex blend of orange peel essences'. Cointreau published a gas-chromatography aroma wheel that sorts more than forty aromas into seven families, spanning, in its own words, 'cut grass to toffee'.

Usage in Perfumery

Rare as a named note. We found three perfumes using it: Demeter's Cosmopolitan Cocktail, V Canto Mirabile and Joop! Muse. The two reviews disagree about the alcohol. Mirabile's reviewer folds it into 'a delayed good splash of rum including a bit of Cointreau plus slightly resinous and spicy hints'. Joop! Muse's reviewer says flatly that 'although the notes list champagne and Cointreau, there's nothing boozy here' and credits it instead with a caramelised feel.
