About
The cold-pressed peel oil of Citrus limettioides, a lime with almost no acid. It reads as lime without the bite: round, mellow and honey-sweet, with a mandarin-like fruit sweetness and a soft orange-blossom floral edge that comes out as it fades. Used as a top note where lime is wanted but its sharpness is not.
Scent Profile
Citrus is the body and the source names it twice: 'a lively and bracing aroma, like sun-ripened citrus groves' and a fragrance 'compared to that of a freshly cut lime'. It sits below published lime at 0.85 because the same source calls this one 'notably less sharp' and 'almost flat'. Honeyed is the single trait the source uses to separate this material from every other lime: 'almost no acidity, giving it a mild, honeyed sweetness that distinguishes its oil from other lime varieties'. Fruity is 'the sweetness recalls that of a ripe mandarin'. Floral is the 'gentle floral notes, like the delicate sweetness of orange blossoms' that the source puts in the middle and again in the drydown as 'citrus blossoms'. Sweet_vanillic is the plain sugar sweetness of 'sweet, round' that honeyed does not fully carry. Origin
Citrus limettioides, a cross of citron with a mandarin/pomelo hybrid, in the same way the Meyer lemon is. Grown in India, Palestine, Israel and Egypt for food, juice and as rootstock. It is not the limetta, which shares the common name 'sweet lime' but comes from a citron/sour orange cross. The oil is a yellow to golden mobile liquid.
