Scent Profile

Citrus leads, because the qualifier is the whole point of the term. Strip the lime out and this is the published cake note. It is held below lime at 0.85 because the fruit here is baked into sugar and butter, not zested fresh over the top. Sweet_vanillic is the sponge. It sits below cake at 0.75 for the same reason in reverse: the citrus takes room the plain cake does not have to give. Lactonic is the butter and milk of the crumb, set just under cake. Sour is the tartness that two of the three placements make explicit, one of them in the perfume's own name, Sweet Delicious Tart Key Lime. It matches lemon-pie. Green is lime peel, half of the published lime's 0.30, because baking flattens the terpenes. Nutty is the browned crust, below cake. Fruity covers the company it keeps in the top of Empress, cranberry and starfruit. Aldehydic is the peel's sharp edge, half of lime's. Powdery is icing sugar. Nothing here is measured. Every number is an inference from a compound name and from three note lists, which is what the spreads of 0.18 to 0.22 on the leading facets are saying.

Origin

Lime cake is not a raw material. Nobody distils it and no supplier publishes a datasheet for it. It is a fantasy accord named after a food, built from lime oil or a lime reconstruction over a sponge base of vanillin, ethyl maltol and soft lactones. Parfumo files the term under three of its own note categories at once, Cake, Lime and Pastry, which is how a compound name behaves rather than a material. Parfumo records 8 perfumes using it, first in 2009 and last in 2024, and IFF composed one of them.

Usage in Perfumery

Used to put a citrus lift on a gourmand without turning it into a cologne. The perfumes that carry it do not agree on where it belongs. Sean John Empress puts it in the top with cranberry, mandarin and starfruit. DKNY Sweet Delicious Tart Key Lime puts it in the heart with ginger, neroli and basil. Eclectic Collections Aperitif puts it in the base with oakmoss, cedar, sandalwood and vetiver. Parfumo's own aggregate says it runs through the whole fragrance.
