Orchard blossom is the smell of a fruit orchard in flower, taken as one thing rather than as any single tree. It is a cool, thin, transparent floral with a green stem edge and an almond-kernel flash under it. It stays on the petal and never becomes the fruit.

Scent Profile

floral is the centre and the source puts it there twice, as 'airy floral lift (linalool, terpineol)' in the opening and as a scent 'closer to linden than to rose - less dense, more aerial'. It is scored on floral rather than white_floral on the source's own instruction: orchard blossom is 'greener and thinner than orange blossom, without the indolic depth of jasmine'. green is the second-largest facet and the source lists it first among the top notes, 'green-stem freshness (cis-3-hexenol)', softening later into the honeyed drydown. powdery is the middle of the accord, where 'heliotropin and anisaldehyde emerge - powdery, faintly sweet, hawthorn-adjacent', and it survives into the last trace. nutty is benzaldehyde, the 'almond-kernel undercurrent' the source says is what tells this apart from a generic white floral. Origin

No natural extraction exists. It is a perfumer's construction, assembled from aroma chemicals to stand for the collective flowering of Rosaceae fruit trees. Première Peau names the parts: linalool and terpineol for the floral lift, benzaldehyde for the almond-kernel bite that runs through the Prunus genus, heliotropin and anisaldehyde for a powdery hawthorn sweetness, and cis-3-hexenol for the green stem. The ratio is the perfumer's choice, so no two orchard blossoms are the same.

Usage in Perfumery

Used as a heart note when a composition needs spring flowering without naming a species. It is thinner and greener than orange blossom and has none of jasmine's indole, so it sits under heavier florals without fighting them. Raise the benzaldehyde and it moves toward cherry blossom. Raise the anisaldehyde and hydroxycitronellal and it moves toward apple. That tunability is the note's job, not a defect in it.
